Tacos, Toes in the Sand, and Island Flavors: The Best Eats in San Pedro
At Low Tide Lodge, we know that a long day on the water works up a serious appetite. While we love the quiet nights at the lodge, we always tell our guests: don’t miss the food scene in town. San Pedro is a melting pot of Maya, Mestizo, and Caribbean flavors, mixed with world-class seafood pulled straight from the reef you’ll be looking at all week.
From the best breakfast burrito you’ve ever had to upscale “Chef’s Table” experiences, here are our favorite spots to fuel up in San Pedro.

Estel’s Dine By The Sea
Best for: The Ultimate Island Breakfast
You haven’t truly arrived in Belize until you’ve had breakfast at Estel’s. With your toes in the sand and a view of the reef, this is the spot for “Fry Jacks” (fluffy, deep-fried dough) and the best smoked fish in town. It’s casual, legendary among the local guide community, and the perfect place to watch the town wake up.
- Price: $ (Affordable)
- Vibe: Sandy floors, laid-back, local favorite.

El Fogon
Best for: Authentic Belizean Soul Food
If you want to eat like a local, you go to El Fogon. They specialize in traditional Belizean cooking over an open fire (the “fogon”). Think slow-cooked firewood stews, conch soup, and whole fried fish. It’s tucked back from the main beach road but worth every step for the rich, smokey flavors of the island’s heritage.
- Price: $$ (Mid-Range)
- Vibe: Rustic, cultural, and incredibly welcoming.

The Truck Stop
Best for: Families & Fun Vibes
Located just north of the bridge, this is Belize’s first shipping container food park. It’s a “choose your own adventure” setup with separate containers for pizza, Asian fusion, Latin food, and ice cream. With a swimming pool, outdoor movie nights, and cornhole games, it’s the absolute best spot for families with restless kids or groups who can’t agree on what to eat.
- Price: $$ (Mid-Range)
- Vibe: Social, high-energy, and great for sunsets.

Elvi’s Kitchen
Best for: A Classic San Pedro Evening
A town staple for decades, Elvi’s manages to be both a landmark and a top-tier culinary destination. The floor is sand, and there’s a massive tree growing right through the middle of the dining room. From Maya-style fish baked in ginger leaves to their famous Coconut Curry, this is where you go for a “nice” dinner that still feels like you’re on island time.
- Price: $$$ (Mid-to-High)
- Vibe: Professional yet whimsical, iconic decor.

Sea Salt (at Alaia Belize)
Best for: The High-End Celebration
If you’re celebrating a successful fishing trip or just want a refined night out, Sea Salt is the pinnacle of fine dining in San Pedro. It’s a modern, sophisticated space offering fresh-caught seafood with an international twist. Their “Chef’s Table” and extensive wine list make it a great bookend to your stay at the lodge.
- Price: $$$$ (High-End)
- Vibe: Upscale, modern, and polished.

A Guide’s Guide to Island Dining
The “Belizean 3”
When looking at a menu, you’ll see three staples everywhere: Rice and Beans, Ceviche, and Fry Jacks. Each restaurant has its own “secret” recipe, so we recommend trying them at multiple spots to find your favorite.
Seasonal Specials
- Lobster Season: Typically opens July 1st. If you’re here in July, go for the Lobster pizza at The Truck Stop.
- Conch Season: Generally October through June. Don’t leave without trying conch fritters—they’re the ultimate boat snack.
Getting Around for Dinner
Most of these spots are within walking distance if you’re staying in town. If you’re heading to The Truck Stop or El Fogon from a bit further out, a quick taxi or your golf cart is the way to go. Just remember: San Pedro streets can get narrow and busy at dinner time, so take it slow!
Looking for the best ‘street meat’ in town? Head to the Central Park food stands after 6:00 PM. Grab some chicken tacos or a pupusa for a few dollars, find a bench, and soak in the local vibe. It’s the most authentic meal you’ll find.”
