At Low Tide Lodge, we love San Pedro. We love the tacos, the bustling docks, and the midnight music.
But there is a very specific moment during the drive north—usually right as you pass the last big resort and the road narrows into a sandy path—where the air changes. The hum of the town is replaced by the rustle of palms and the distant break of the reef.
This is the transition into “North Ambergris,” and for us, it’s where the real Belize begins.

Leaving the Grid Behind
As you zip further north toward the Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve, you aren’t just moving away from town; you’re moving toward a rare kind of seclusion. Most visitors to Ambergris Caye never make it this far. By the time you pull up to our beach path, you’ve entered an area where the wildlife outnumbers the golf carts and the stars are bright enough to read by.

Life on the Edge of the Preserve
Our lodge sits right on the shoulder of the Bacalar Chico National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This means your “neighbors” aren’t hotels—they are 41 square miles of protected lagoons, mangroves, and tropical forests.
- The Backyard: While town guests are booking boat tours to see birds, you’ll likely see Roseate Spoonbills and Ospreys right from our deck while you sip your morning coffee.
- The Soundscape: In town, you hear golf cart horns and music. At Low Tide, your soundtrack is the rhythmic “whoosh” of the Caribbean Sea hitting the reef, which sits closer to the shore up here than anywhere else on the island.

Where the Reef Meets the Beach
One of the most unique things about our location near the nature preserve is a spot called Rocky Point. It’s one of the only places in the world where the Belize Barrier Reef actually touches the shore. You can literally walk off the beach and be snorkeling on a world-class reef system in minutes. There are no crowds, no boat anchors, and no rush.

The Lodge Lifestyle: Authentic & Laid Back
We built Low Tide Lodge here because we wanted to offer something different. We’re “off-grid” in spirit but full of creature comforts. It’s about being professional enough to handle every detail of your fishing trip, but laid back enough to invite you for a bocce ball game and a cold Belikin under the palapa.
- The Experience: It’s a 3-bedroom oasis designed for groups who want to connect. Whether it’s sharing a meal in the chef’s kitchen or rinsing off in the outdoor dual shower, everything here is built to help you slow down.
- The Adventure: We have paddleboards, kayaks, and snorkeling gear ready to go. You don’t need a schedule here; the tide tells you when it’s time to move.

Finding Your Roots
We have spent decades traveling the globe, staying at some of the most famous lodges in the world. We chose this specific spot on the north end of Ambergris Caye to put their roots down because of the balance. You have access to the world’s best flats fishing out the back door, the reef out the front, and a level of peace that just doesn’t exist in the “busy” parts of the world.
The best part about being this far north? The ‘Commute.’ When we head out for a day of fishing, we aren’t fighting boat traffic from the San Pedro marinas. We’re often the first ones on the flats, watching the sun come up over water that hasn’t seen a boat all night.
